As soon as the smoke cleared after the riot at the Capitol, national commenters on the Right expressed their horror at what had happened.  By the next day, the Right's talking heads on radio and TV were calling for the rioters who entered the capitol to be prosecuted.  Of course the talking heads at CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS and MSNBC were demanding prosecution as well.

Those calling for prosecution of the rioters on both sides are correct to do so.

...although this was a shocking change in position for leftist apologists at all levels.

Certainly the Tiffany media had very little to stay with regards to prosecuting those involved with CHAZ/CHOP.  I have never heard a word from the leftist media calling for the prosecution of those who murdered and lynched people in association with Frente BLM/ ANTIFA rallies.  Nor have I heard a single call for prosecution of those people who looted and destroyed the livelihood of thousands of  their brother Americans.  Perhaps, somewhere, in some muted voice, one, or a very few, of the columnist and national commenters on the Left have made weak appeals for returning to a civil society.  There absolutely was not the uniform, monolithic, on-target message that rioters should be prosecuted that we are hearing now.

So, as an effort to bring our country back together, let's prosecute rioters.  All of them.  If someone murdered or was an accessory to murder at an ANTIFA/Frente BLM event, prosecute them.  The person who murdered Brian Sicknick should be prosecuted.  The person responsible for shooting Ashli Babbit should be prosecuted.  The ANTIFA thugs who used professional breaching tools to allow looters into locked spaces need to be prosecuted.  The Frente BLM/ANTIFA thugs responsible either as actors or accessories to murder, beatings, arson and looting all should be prosecuted.  If we are to come together as a country this must happen.

With prosecutions will come a greater knowledge of what actually happened.  If it turns out that the organized agitators who jacked up emotions once the march reached the capitol were members of some right wing group, go after that group as a terrorist organization.  If they were members of an ANTIFA cell, prosecute everyone in the cell.  Let's stop pretending we cannot pursue ANTIFA as a terrorist organization.

It is past time for the Democrat owned media to ask prosecutors why rioters in Kenosha, Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland and a dozen other cities were not prosecuted.  Their one-way outrage is wearing really thin.

Pandemic Home Cooking Renaissance!

The foolish restrictions and outright closures of restaurants during the WuWHOflu has denied us easy access to some of our favorite dishes.  After a brief period of working through all of our home cooking standards, as well as easy-to-make foods which we would not normally have consumed, we and many of our fellow disquans have elected to broaden their culinary ranges at home.

A family friend who suffered terribly under the ineffective quarantine restrictions found himself homeless.  Not wanting to lose all of his stuff while he figured out what to do next, he placed some large items in my shop and put a couple of smokers on my side porch.  For a long time my son and I had considered buying a smoker but we never did because school and work kept us away from the house too much.  Smoking can be an all day commitment, especially for brisket, but now we found ourselves at home, with a vertical propane/charcoal/electric smoker, and an offset wood burning smoker.  We were also further liberated by the lack of commuting time.

Until the past couple of months we've been smoking beef, pork, chicken, fish, and vegetables two or three times per week.  We've each developed our own rubs and learned a bit about how to finish tough meats, especially spare ribs, without making them mushy.  My wife's chemotherapy has made her sensitive to smoke, so now we only do it when we know the wind will be blowing the smoke away from the house for as long as we plan to cook.

We've learned a bit about woods.  Pecan is still our favorite.  Hickory is great too.  Pre-made charcoal also makes for a very nice flavor.  We had a nasty ice storm here in OKC while the leaves were still green and on the trees.  My son and I snagged some apple from the clean-up, but we haven't done anything with it yet.  We've had good luck with non-traditional woods.  Magnolia, while significantly less energy dense, makes for a nice flavor.  We just have to use more of it.  Hackberry leaves a good neutral smoky flavor.  Elm had been disparaged to us, but we tried it anyway.  We were careful to let the wood get hot enough to burn clean before we started the oxygen starvation by closing the lid on the offset.  Elm worked just fine for us under those conditions.
